The VFL Club Grand Final Eve Luncheon which many say is the best function of it’s type in Melbourne is traditionally held on the Friday before the AFL Grand Final and brings in a capacity crowd of 1000 males each year with many more on the waiting list unable to get a seat. This event has just SOLD OUT!
Now in its 23rd year the VFL Club Grand Final Eve Luncheon has become a Melbourne social institution, raising over $1.25m to provide much needed support for charities. Membership is stronger than ever, with new members coming on board regularly and we encourage all past AFL players to come on board and be a part of a club that not only gives many opportunities throughout the year to catch-up with peers, but also works to raise much needed funds for various charities within our community.
In 2016 we will celebrate and recognise the footballers that play Australian Rules Football such as recently retired Hawthorn FC superstar; Brian Lake and Legend of the game Neale Danniher to talk about his charity Cure for MND Foundation. There will be special performances by some of Australia’s best talent, guests will get to meet some of footballs biggest stars, get the inside word on Saturday’s Grand Final and raise a glass or two in wonderful convivial football atmosphere.
Guests will once again have the opportunity to take home some unique items through our main and silent auctions.
All profits raised on the day will be donated to The Royal Women’s Hospital. Monies raised from the day will help with the equipment and research needs for the Women’s Neonatal Intensive and Special Care (NISC) service. The Women’s NISC nurseries provide comprehensive care for unwell and premature babies that have been transferred from other hospitals or have been born at the Women’s, one of Victoria’s leading tertiary hospitals for at risk pregnancies. The NISC has an internationally recognised research program assessing many neonatal problems and studying the long term outcomes for premature babies.
The VFL Club are proud to advise that they will be getting behind Neale Daniher in raising awareness and funds for research within Australia of Motor Neurone Disease and Neale has agreed to be one of our guest speakers at this year’s Grand Final Eve Luncheon. We will be holding an auction during the lunch for the winning bidder to nominate a mate to take part in an “ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE” carried out on stage, all money raised during this auction will be going to the MND Foundation. As well as presenting Neale with a significant cheque for the MND Foundation from the VFL Club.
Neale was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease September 2013, he is a patron for the Cure For MND Foundation.”I am devoted to the task of raising awareness about Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and funds for research within Australia, with the aim of discovering treatments that can grapple with the disease, and ultimately help find a cure”. Neale Daniher
‘No prevention, no cure, no treatment,’ he said.
Guests of the VFL Club can expect to enjoy a great afternoon of entertainment while supporting a much loved member of the AFL, Neale Daniher as well as the Royal Women’s Hospital.
